It’s time for Arctic Challenge!

Get ready for a week of extreme snowboarding at Oslo’s hallmark ski slope, Holmenkollen.

22/02/2008 :: International extreme sports athletes are currently gathered in Oslo for Arctic Challenge week, 18–23 February. This competition was initiated by Norwegian snowboarding stars Terje Håkonsen and Daniel Franck.

The extreme competition was envisaged as an alternative to traditional contests, and was first held in 1999. This year, snowboarders from all over the world are gathered at Holmenkollen, a ski jump area with a history dating back over 100 years.

The big day is Saturday 23 February, when the semi-finals and finals will be held.

In Arctic Challenge 2007, Terje Håkonsen set a new world record in the quarterpipe, with a jump of 9.8 metres. See his jump here:
